Breaking down test scores
After a twelve hour day at school that ended with a three hour faculty meeting so that we could analyze test scores I reviewed what I have learned at every meeting of this sort for the last three years.
White students of a the highest socioeconomic class do better on the test as a group, especially if they stayed out of heavily regulated, high stakes test driven public schools until high school. Students of the lower socioeconomic class who have been forced to stay in the highly regulated, high stakes test driven public schools their entire lives because they can’t afford private school do poorly on the test. OH, and I know I have mentioned this before but our test scores once again went up overall but our students A.C.T scores went down. The primary concern in the meeting? How can we keep our test scores going up? I would write it off to school environment, but this is my second school and the conversation is identical at both.
We are regulating and testing our public education system into oblivion.
