The Boss Goes Traditional

Confession: I have never been a Bruce Springsteen fan. A song here and there got my toes tapping, but for the most part I was never interested. His last two albums have changed my opinion...

Maybe I'm a complete dork and it's not like he needs more publicity, but I love the new Bruce Springsteen album of traditional folk songs done in a non-traditional way called We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions. The CD is a "Dual Disk" meaning one side is a "making of the album short" along with a bunch of other extras. If you like folk music and are not rigid in how you define it this album is worth checking out. NPR did a story on it and has many links to reviews, samples etc…

We were playing this all day over the loudspeaker as background music at my school all day yesterday. I like a lot of this, and I love the idea, but too many listenings of "Froggy Went A-Courtin' " will get old fast...

You have background music!? No wonder you love teaching!
True, "Froggy" could get old. The fact that they traced it's roots back to 1549 makes it more tolerable for this history teacher.
