Humbled By A Tortoise

As I was sitting down this week with plenty (useless faculty meetings/professional development sessions, ethically questionable state test review sessions "we" are planning for the week before break, two bomb threats in a day) to write about, I was humbled...by Addwaita, a 250 year old tortoise who died this week.
This creature lived through a big chunk of the history that I teach. His life was full of things that I can only read and wonder about. This tortoise is/was living proof that no matter what we do life and history and what-have-you will keep on going no matter what... Whatever these kids, administrators, nut-job parents, state Edu-crats, do there will still be 250 year old reptiles looking back at us and giggling to them selves as they step out of this world. My petty bitches seemed small and more useless than usual, so instead I pay my respects and give my thanks to a tortoise.

Zen-SIGH-and-Smile...
