Why do they take that walk??
I HATE signing drop-out slips! Especially when they come from smart kids who just don't fit into the system and probably won't ever fit into any institutional format. I feel like loosing these kids is on us and our inadequacy in meeting the needs of our kids where they are and not where we think they should be.

I went to college right out of high school, stayed two years, and then dropped out for nine years before going back to finish my B.A. degree. Sometimes kids need a hiatus from the classroom, and sooner or later they find their way back. I hope that's the case for the student(s) you're referring to in this post.
My college experience was similar to yours but I made it through H.S. I understand that she may make it anyway it's just frustrating because she didn't have to have this hiccup in her path. She should have been caught earlier. On the bright side it wasn't because of an impending child.
