I have finished my first year at a new school in a new district.
It has been the best teaching experience of my short career.
I developed professional and personal relationships that will inspire and push me forward as a teacher and a person.
I am excited about public education and my place in it for the first time in a while and I can see a long term future in education, not the case a year ago.
This will be the first summer that I will not run from school and stay away mentally and physically as long as I can.
I will work with the other U.S. History teacher closely to develop themes, assessments and get to know the new text that we decided,
together, to adopt.
I may teach summer school.
Really teach it too, not monitor some computer program that serves only to occupy time and teaches nothing.
In short I feel like a professional…and it feels good.

It's so nice to hear teachers talk like this, as opposed to the usual end-of-the-year "good riddance" stuff.
I can say that it feels pretty good too.
I also believe that after a week most teachers while they say they dread the return are chomping at the bit to get back.
