My Thoughts Exactly

Joe Thomas at Shut Up and Teach posted some ideas yesterday that voice many of my frustrations about public and private and school funding. It seems that Katrina has opened a funding door for the agenda of destroying public schools, propping up private and charter schools and subsequently widening a socioeconomic education gap that creates situation in which as Mr. Thomas says will,

…send us back 50-plus years to the world of Plessey v Ferguson where segregation was endorsed, even promoted, while the federal government looked the other way.

At least in Arizona “for profit schools” ability to raid public funds has been tempered a bit…for now.

(The "tinfoil hat" voice in my head asks: Could this be the end goal of some long term plan of those bigots who were beaten by Brown V. Board of Ed that has finally come to fruition? Has Katrina just unlocked the back door for this type of class and race hatred to reenter while the rest of the nation is at the front talking to the milkman? Thankfully the "tinfoil hat" is a quiet voice that can be shut in a closet when it gets too rowdy…but still.)
